Create your first quiz
Describe the quiz in one sentence and Mica writes it from your catalog.
- In the Mica app, open "Quizzes" and click "New quiz".
- Under "What should this quiz do?", describe the quiz in one sentence, such as "help first-time buyers find a starter bottle". You can also click an example or pick a template under "Or start from a template".
- Press Enter or click the arrow button. Mica reads your catalog, writes the questions and answers, matches answers to products and styles the quiz to your store. This takes about 30 seconds.
- The quiz opens in the editor with a live preview. It stays a draft until you publish it.
Change the quiz by typing
Type a change in the chat box under the preview.
- Type what you want in "Tell Mica what to change", under the preview. For example "make it darker and more elegant" or "ask about budget first".
- To change one screen only, select that screen first. The chat shows "About" and the screen name. Click the × to go back to the whole quiz.
- Mica changes only what you asked for and the preview updates.
- You can also edit any text, answer or color by hand in the editor panels.
Publish the quiz and show it on your store
Publish in Mica, then turn on the Mica Quiz app embed in your theme editor.
- In the quiz editor, click "Publish" at the top right. The status under the quiz name changes to "Live".
- Go to the Mica home page. Under "Setup", find "Turn on the storefront popup" and click "Open theme settings".
- Your theme editor opens with the "Mica Quiz" app embed switched on. Click "Save" in the theme editor.
- After later edits, click "Publish changes" so shoppers see them.
For a quiz on its own page, choose the "Quiz page" layout above the preview and click "Add the quiz block in the theme editor". The theme editor opens with the "Mica Quiz Page" block added. Click "Save" there.
If an A/B test is running, end it in "A/B tests" before you publish.
Connect Klaviyo
Send each lead and their answers to a Klaviyo list, with a segment per answer and a follow-up email.
- Open "Connect" in the Mica app and click "Connect Klaviyo". A Klaviyo window opens. Approve access. There is nothing to copy or paste.
- Under "Subscribe leads to this list", choose a list. Leads start syncing once a list is picked.
- In the quiz editor, open "Connections" and turn on "Save quiz answers as profile properties".
- To make a segment for each answer, click "Create segments" under "Klaviyo segments". It takes about 1 second per segment.
- To email shoppers their matches a day later, click "Create the follow-up flow" under "Klaviyo follow-up email". The flow is created as a draft. Click "Open the flow in Klaviyo", review the email and turn it on there.
The follow-up flow needs one finished quiz with an email first, because Klaviyo creates the quiz event on its first use.
Klaviyo only subscribes shoppers who tick the consent box. You can change its wording in the "Email" panel under "Consent text".
Connect Omnisend, Mailchimp, Brevo, Shopify or a webhook
Each tool takes an API key or one click on the Connect page.
- Omnisend: in Omnisend go to Store settings > API keys > Create API key, with access to contacts. Paste it into "Omnisend API key" on the Mica "Connect" page and click "Connect Omnisend".
- Mailchimp: in Mailchimp go to Profile > Extras > API keys > Create A Key. Paste it into "Mailchimp API key", click "Connect Mailchimp", then choose an "Audience".
- Brevo: in Brevo click your name at the top right, then SMTP & API > API keys > Generate a new API key. Paste it into "Brevo API key", click "Connect Brevo", then choose a "List".
- Shopify customers: click "Save leads as Shopify customers". Each lead is saved as a customer and tagged with their answers.
- Webhook (Zapier, Make, HubSpot or your own server): paste the URL into "Webhook URL" and click "Turn on webhook". Click "Send a test event" to check it. Each request is signed with the "Signing secret" shown.
Give each lead a discount code
Mica can create a unique Shopify discount code for every shopper who finishes the quiz.
- In the quiz editor, open "Offer and reward" and turn on "Reward with a discount code".
- Under "Code type", choose "A unique code per lead (recommended)" or "One shared code for everyone".
- For unique codes, pick "Percentage off", "Amount off" or "Free shipping" and set the value.
- Optional: set "Code expires after (days, 0 = never)" and "Limit to one use per customer".
- Publish the quiz to apply the change.
To show the offer at the top of the quiz, turn on "Show an offer at the top of the quiz" in the same panel.
Choose when the quiz appears and who sees it
Set the trigger, how often it shows, and rules for which shoppers see it.
- In the quiz editor, open "When it shows".
- Under "When it appears", choose "After a delay", "After scrolling", "On exit intent" or "On click". For "On click", link any button, banner or menu item in your theme to /#mica-quiz.
- Set "Minimum pages viewed first" and "Days before showing again" if you want the quiz to wait or rest between visits.
- To show it to some shoppers only, turn on "Only show to a targeted audience" under "Who sees it". Click "Add a rule" and pick a field: Page path, Traffic source, Referrer, Visitor, Pages viewed, Has visited page, Country or Device.
- With more than one rule, choose "Match all rules (AND)" or "Match any rule (OR)".
- Publish the quiz to apply the change.
Change the layout and position
Pick Popup, Full-screen popup, Story or Quiz page, and where the card sits.
- Above the preview, choose a "Layout": "Popup", "Full-screen popup", "Story" or "Quiz page".
- For the card position, open "Design" and pick a spot in the "Position" grid. "Reset to automatic" lets Mica choose.
- Under "On phones", choose "Slides up from the bottom" or "Centered".
- Publish the quiz to apply the change.
Story fills the screen on phones, so it has no position setting.
Ask for a phone number
Add a phone field with its own texting consent box.
- In the quiz editor, open "Email" and turn on "Ask for an email".
- Turn on "Ask for a phone number too". Edit the wording under "SMS consent text" if you want.
- Under "When to ask", choose "Before the results (more leads)" or "After the results".
- Publish the quiz to apply the change.
See and export your leads
Every lead is saved in Mica, whether or not you connect another tool.
- Open "Leads" in the Mica app. Each row shows when the lead was captured, their email and phone, the quiz, and whether they finished it.
- Click "Export CSV" to download every lead, with one column for each answer.
- To answer a customer data request, use "Export this customer's data" on the same page.
Let Mica run A/B tests
Mica finds the weakest question, writes one change and tests it on half your shoppers.
- Publish the quiz first. A/B tests only run on a live quiz.
- In the quiz editor, open "A/B tests" and turn on "Let Mica run A/B tests on this quiz".
- To run one test yourself, click "Test my unpublished changes" or "Let Mica write a change and test it".
- End a test with "Publish B and end the test" or "Keep A and end the test".
Uninstall Mica
Uninstalling cancels your plan, and Shopify asks Mica to delete your store's data.
- In Shopify admin, go to Settings > Apps, find Mica and click Uninstall.
- Uninstalling cancels your Mica plan.
- Mica keeps your data for 48 hours in case you reinstall, then deletes it. Backups are gone within 30 days.
Export your leads first with "Export CSV" on the "Leads" page if you want to keep them.
Email support
Write to support@micapopups.com with your store’s myshopify.com address and what happened. In the Mica app, the Help page shows your store details with a button to copy them.
